ABOUT

IOW-Arch began in 2020, with a very successful inaugural conference at the Institute of Arab and Islamic studies (IAIS) at the University of Exeter. This was followed by a second conference in 2022, also at IAIS, who generously provided financial support. In 2024, IOW-Arch is moving to the University of York, where it will be hosted by the Department of Archaeology.

The driving force behind the Indian Ocean World Archaeology Conference is the major growth in relevant studies over the years and the promotion of a forum where this research can be discussed and developed to promote the success of the future of Indian Ocean studies. The aim of this conference is to facilitate this and allow fellow researchers to meet, get to know each other and talk about and share their work on an international, informal platform.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made the 2020 and 2022 IOW-Arch conferences so fruitful and enjoyable, and we hope you will all join us for this year's instalment. Details of the conference programme and activities will follow.

Please navigate this site for further details, including the call for papers, the organising and academic committees, registration and abstract submission, and information on the IOW-Arch 2024.

Enquiries can be made through the form on the Contact us page, or directly by email.
